Teachings we offer include the following:
Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan- This style of Tai Chi Chuan (Taijiquan) is a martial art created by Yang Lu Chan from the Chen family style he learned and passed down through his family until his grandson Yang Cheng Fu began teaching it all around China popularizing the art where it became renowned for not only it's martial art skills but for its amazing health benefits. at Tide Change Tai Chi we teach two main Tai Chi Chuan forms. We teach the 24 Beijing form based on Yang Style that was popularized in China as a system of health care for the people and is the most popular Tai Chi form in the world. The form is perfect for this goal as it is long enough to attain great benefits but not too long that it is inconvenient to do for a daily health improvement and maintenance routine. Additionally we teach a longer 60 movement Yang Style form that lends itself greatly to feeling the flow of chi (Qi) energy in the body and has a more complete version of the Yang Style of Tai Chi with its additional movements. This form is based more in Grandmaster Cheng Man Ching's Yang style Interpretation. The Yang style of Tai Chi Chuan is a gentle, smooth and flowing art many describe as a moving meditation that combines breathing techniques with soft movements and is the most sought after and popular style of Tai Chi for health and wellness.
Qigong- An ancient Chinese art that translates as "energy work or energy skill'. The qigong we teach has several varieties from slow, flowing movements that greatly improve strength, balance, coordination and energy flow to standing qigong static postures known as Zhan Zhuang which translates as "Standing Stake" Qigong that teaches structure and improves the connection of the body, mind, breath and energy. We also teach a nearly 1000 year old Qigong routine called Baduanjin or "Eight Pieces of Brocade". Brocade is a fine patterned cloth material considered a treasure in ancient times and this form was named as such because it has eight moving exercise patterns and is a treasure for your health when used as a regular health maintenance routine. Baduanjin is known for greatly improving flexibility, strength, balance, coordination and more. The art of qigong is truly amazing for the body and mind.
Meditation- The meditation we teach ranges from Mindfulness meditation, Concentration meditation, Positive affirmation meditation, Walking meditation, Zen meditation (Chan is the word for Zen in Chinese) where clearing the mind and focusing on living in the present moment is the key and then into Taoist (Daoist) methods of meditation such as Wuji meditation (similar to zen meditation with a clear mind approach but with the optimism that with a clear mind there are then infinite possibilities), Zhang Zhuang meditation (Standing Stake Qigong) to energy movement meditation which is more active in its approach. One method of cultivating, building and storing Chi energy in the body is an ancient method known as Embryonic Breathing Meditation which combines focused breathing patterns with the mindful leading of energy in the body to accomplish the desired goals. Another active method of meditation we teach is known as Microcosmic Orbit Meditation where you learn to circulate the energy of the body through the two main energy meridians coordinating breath with the mind's intent (known as the Yi in Chinese). These Taoist (Daoist) methods of meditation are thousands of years old and are very deep in their scope. They enhance health, feel amazing and are excellent for the body and mind when the correct desired results are achieved.
Tai Chi Chuan as a martial art-Tai Chi Chuan has flourished for its incredible health benefits but is actually a Kung Fu (Gung Fu) style based on Daoist philosophy. Shifu Justin Guerin is a highly experienced practitioner of Tai Chi Chuan as a martial art and teaches both the health aspects and the martial art side for anyone seeking those methods.
Self Defense-Shifu Justin Guerin has developed a self defense course for people with no training to learn combining awareness with simple yet highly effective methods to keep oneself safe in the dangers of our modern world.
